Message from the President - June
Do any of you use Facebook? Maybe to at least keep in touch with some family members - or find and hear from/about other friends and relatives whom you see or hear from very seldom? I dragged my feet on setting up an account. My husband "just did it" for me as he thought I should also "get caught up" with friends and family. So I do open it daily though I seldom comment or write much. At Conference of Presidents this past February, my roommate was Gwen Edwards who is the Nebraska Women of the ELCA president. She has a Facebook account and I accepted her as a friend. Last month I talked about attending Synod Assembly - she recently attended the Nebraska Synod Assembly. She is much more prolific on Facebook! One thing she said caught my eye. Some of you likely met Ardi Hoins who was the NE president from 2000-2005. Remember Nebraska is our partner synod and we have shared breakfast at Triennial Gatherings. Well Gwen wrote on her Facebook page that Ardi was elected the Vice President of the NE Synod Council. Halle, Halle, Halle-lu-jah!
Which brings to mind our elections this fall. Hope you are deciding on a nomination from your unit for Triennial in Spokane next summer. And also prayerfully considering accepting a nomination for a position on our board - or at least submitting a suggestion to our nominations chair.
Our board will be meeting at the end of this month at King of Glory in Fountain Valley where we will all meet in convention in November. The next issue of this newsletter will have a registration form. This issue has a resolution form added. Remember resolutions are the method by which we can conduct business and through which any and all of you have a voice. Please send your resolutions to me by September 15th. A resolutions team will be named from the delegates who register. They must review any and all resolutions and prepare a recommendation when a resolution is presented on the floor of the convention.
One new item of interest for the November is that Barbara Martyn will be our Bible Study leader. She is a diaconal minister at First Lutheran in Fullerton. Her husband is a pastor there and they have a son who is the new pastor at Eden Lutheran in Riverside.
Another plug for someone to serve as historian. Am hoping that if I keep asking, someone will step forward. Interested or know someone who would be interested? Let me know!
Have a Happy and Restful Summer as we all continue
Acting Boldly in Christ!
Eunice
